Biography

Jozef G. Bakos b. 1891 New York d. 1977 New Mexico Studied at the Albright Art School in NY, also in Toronto and in Denver. He was the first art instructor at the Univ. of Colorado in Boulder, and then moved to Santa Fe, NM in 1921. His early influence was Cezanne. He then became a plein-air painter (painting outdoors), followed by a modernist in the important avant-garde group in Santa Fe known as Los Cinco Pintores in the early 1920’s, also crafting furniture for the La Fonda Hotel. Later, he taught at the University of Denver in the 30’s and in Santa Fe in the 40’s. Paraphrased from AskArt
