Clarence McGrath b. 1938 Arizona d. 2007 Rosarita, Mexico Son of a sharecropper, McGrath worked hard and painted on the side when able. But people started to take notice of his talent and he spent a year in Phoenix painting portraits, then moved to Southern California. Here, once again circumstances led him to have to work and study art on the side, but this time with Sergei Bongart. In 1962, McGrath won the J.F. and Anna Lee Stacey Fellowship Award, which provided a painting trip to Central America. In the next 10 years, the painter sold his belongings and moved to Mexico, painting and living there. paraphrased from AskArt
